“Channel Tres is walking into his pop icon era, and we are following him every step of the way. The producer, rapper, singer and all-around performer has grown from cool-scene favorite to breakout star, and his forthcoming Real Cultural Sh*t is his ticket to the top of the pops.” –Billboard
“While Channel Tres has been dubbed a house musician well before the radio and streaming services tuned back into the genre’s longstanding magic, he resists that simple categorization. He called upon the raunchy bounce of West Coast hip-hop perfected in his hometown and married it with house music’s Midwestern foundation to create a distinct blend he likes to call “Compton House. The technicolor world that he built for the genre is breathtaking.”- PAPER
“One can’t help but feel cool while listening to buzzy Compton DJ Channel Tres’ suave and smooth dance music.”– NYLON
“What a Channel Tres EP, song or performance ultimately does is get you to dance. His specialty is providing you with the tools to get free by moving your body. There’s something inherently healing about movement, the reason it’s been so integral to his art and life for the last year.” – Los Angeles Times
(December 7, 2023) – Today, musical visionary Channel Tres releases “Walked in the Room,” a gleaming new single wrapped in psychedelia and effortless cool. Listen HERE. Steamy and stylish, the track plays out like a disco house fever dream.
Coasting over a collage of jittery, disembodied synths and flaring synth bass, Channel emits seductive calm as he lets loose lifestyle philosophies that could double as pickup lines: “I don’t think about it/Show up — I get to work/Don’t doubt me, baby, I kill the chaos with a smirk.” Swerving between plain-spoken self-affirmations and a hazy melody, his vocals careen off the bassline and into the lusty thrills of the dancefloor — a hypnotic constellation of impulse, intention and bubbling euphoria. Produced by Channel himself, “Walked in the Room” is as sultry as it is energetic. It evokes temporary bliss and the hidden ecstasy of L.A. nightlife, and its video only enhances the effect. More literally speaking, it’s an emblem of hard-earned confidence, the reassurance that comes with becoming one of the most compelling creators of your generation. Watch HERE.
“Walked in the Room” is Channel’s first single since the release of Real Cultural Sh*t, an engrossing EP released back in February before embarking on a sold-out European tour. As dynamic as the EP was, it was just a preview of Channel’s forthcoming 2024 project, which will see him continue his artistic growth. Since unloading his eponymous debut project five years ago, the Compton multihyphenate has made a living between genres. Over the years, he’s flaunted his knack for experimentation with projects like Black Moses (2019), I Can’t Go Outside (2020) and refresh (2022). In the process, he’s earned a veritable legion of fans and a reputation as a major proponent of house’s resurgence in the world of pop music. It’s a level of popularity — and outright respect — that enabled him to sell out North American and European headline tours in 2022 & 2023. He’ll continue building his legacy with his new project. More immediately speaking, when he takes over the turntables at Miami Art Basel this weekend. With “Walked in the Room” at his back and self-belief that’s growing as much as his skillset, Channel Tres is poised to make his latest level up an extended one.
