Walk Away is a deeply honest debut that sees Libianca bare all and is a vivid display of her music prowess. Written from her perspective, as well as the perspective of the women in her life, the EP courageously addresses several crucial topics – domestic abuse, mental health, loss and the complexities of leaving relationships that no longer serve you. It’s a resonant, unflinching account of Libianca’s most vulnerable moments and at the same time, a reminder to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Her soul-baring lyrics are accompanied by Afrobeat-tinged production that effortlessly combines her R&B and Gospel influences, in a way that feels completely natural.
Speaking about her debut EP, Libianca explains: “Walk Away is baggage that I’ve been carrying for my whole life. Some things I was ashamed of and others that I kept to myself for the fear of being seen as weak. I’m finally laying it all to rest and moving on the only way I know how ; turning it into art. I feel lighter with this release.”
The EP features previously released single ”Jah” as well as global-hit ”People,” a moment which quickly earned her significant acclaim and captured the attention of audiences worldwide. Over half a billion global streams, 220M+ video views and multiple platinum certifications later, “People” now stands as the fifth biggest Afrobeats track in Spotify history.
Growing up with a love of Afrobeats, Makossa, Gospel and R&B, it was destined that Libianca would become the powerhouse that she is today. Years of open mic nights and church choir practices would form the basis of her later artistry, recognizing very early the power of songwriting that speaks to people at the most crucial times in their lives. Prioritizing vulnerability, empathy and emotion in her music in a mission to “heal the world” has resulted in a tight-knit fanbase, deeply appreciative of her honesty. Libianca’s road to greatness is just beginning, but already her accolades are plenty. To name a few – a 2023 BET Award win for “Best New International Act,” a coveted support slot on tour for Alicia Keys and two 2023 Billboard Music Awardnominations for “Top Afrobeats Artist” and “Top Afrobeats Song” (“People”). The past year has made it clear, Libianca is a talent impossible to ignore.
