This new single will be featured on Jourden’s upcoming debut EP, Straight, No Chase – click HERE to pre-save.
Speaking on her new single, Jourden states:
“Queen Latifah has always been a huge inspiration for me and I loved the vibe of “Just Another Day.” Her fierce commitment to women empowerment will always inspire me. Ironically, this song was inspired by all the wannabe slick dudes who mistake our genuine kindness for weakness. Sometimes you got to let em’ know even though you tried to play me… You really wasn’t sh*t for that! But it’s just another day…”
Last year, the Grammy U award-winning songwriter dropped her single and video for “Flow,” which showcased Jourden’s authentic poetic roots and deep love for hip-hop. – click HERE to listen / click HERE to watch the music video. The music video was directed by Fonz Bernard.
About Jourden:
Jourden, singer, songwriter, rapper, and music producer, born and raised in Fort Greene, Brooklyn! At the age of seven, Jourden began to explore her musical curiosities. With a family piano inside of her home, she gravitated to it, listening to songs on her iPod and then learning to play them by ear. Lyrically, she began expressing her sense of duty to activism and social justice with the spoken word. This artistic prowess organically evolved to include singing and rapping. At the age of 15 during her sophomore year of high school, Jourden was able to firmly establish herself as a creative force as a singer, rapper, and producer. With lyrics like – “As time develops — I hope to be more of a leader than a tweeter. Hope you remember my actions more than my clever lines,” her song “Tides” won the 2016 Grammy U Song of the Year Award, which explores the emotional complexities of her journey as teen learning to define her identity and coming of age. She later graduated with a degree in performing arts from Loyola University New Orleans.
Jourden’s style of music is a brilliant fusion of neo soul, trap, classic hip hop, alternative and Caribbean beats influenced by her West Indian heritage – her mother is of Bajan descent and her father is of Trinidadian descent. As an artist, she is inspired by Erykah Badu, LaurynHill, Notorious B.I.G, Outkast, and A Tribe called Quest. She is motivated to make music for the voiceless, the silenced, the overlooked, and the unheard. She hopes that through her music to bring love, a critical perspective and invites listeners on her ongoing expedition of self-discovery, especially to those within her community. All of this is embodied in her personal and professional mantra, “Stay different.”
