As a teenager Compton, CA native Steve Lacy built a veteran’s resume: Wired Magazine Tech Visionary, Time Magazine Most Influential Teen, Grammy-nominated, toured the world three times, walked for Virgil Abloh’s first Louis Vuitton show in Paris, gave a TED Talk in NYC, produced a track on Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN (“Pride”) on his iPhone.
Grammy-nominated for his debut LP Apollo XXI at 21, Steve shows no signs of slowing down. Winning a Grammy as a producer for Thundercat was icing on the cake of his highly-curated list of collaborators, which includes Tyler the Creator, Solange, J.Cole, Vampire Weekend, Dirty Projectors, Kali Uchis, and Mac Miller, not to mention his guitar, bass, songwriting, and production with his bandmates THE INTERNET.
Steve’s standing in the fashion world continues to accelerate, gracing magazine covers for i-D, Interview Germany, GQ Style UK, GQ Korea, Man About Town, and Document Journal, among others. In the last two years, he walked Hollywood Blvd in Gucci’s “Love Parade” show, opened Burberry’s show with Erykah Badu, Rosalia, and Bella Hadid, and attended the Gucci Cruise show in Rome with Harry Styles, who then interviewed him for Man About Town. A simple Instagram post will now land him in Vogue.
Steve has even somehow managed to pop up with the world locked down, opening for Erykah Badu at the Hollywood Bowl, attending a YSL dinner at Art Basel Miami, and hanging alongside Ye as he livestreamed new music.
And, to bring things full circle, his teenage-released track “Dark Red” has gone viral and platinum, setting the stage for Steve’s forthcoming sophomore album to be released in summer 2022.
