“Sheff G helped define the Brooklyn drill sound — now he’s pushing it forward” – COMPLEX
“[A] hard, forceful New York rapper with a deep, resonant voice” – Stereogum

Paving the way for the rise of Brooklyn drill, Sheff G has already had an immense impact on his borough’s music scene. Today, he shares Proud of Myself, his new album. A testament to Sheff’s enduring legacy and continued influence in the drill genre, the 13-track project finds the NY rapper experimenting with new sounds while still delivering the high-energy anthems he’s known for.
Sheff immediately sets the tone for the project on “These Thoughts,” which finds the Brooklyn rapper in his feelings, admitting that despite his success, he still gets in his head sometimes. Over a soft melodic guitar instrumental Sheff reflects on lost time and missed opportunities on “Lucky Kid,” looking to the future and how he can mend things: “I rather drop my crown to see you smile / What’s a clown to make you frown / I let you down / Live your life, don’t regret a thing.” He takes the energy up a notch on “Everything Lit,” bringing his signature cuthroat bars and feeling unstoppable: “Yeah your boy back, yeah everything lit / Yeah, it’s lit.” “That’s That” explores the darker drill sound, complete with ominous 808s and distorted synths. Later in the project, Sheff brightens the mood on “Day N Nite,” getting emotional about his newfound freedom and vowing to do better: “Like they don’t know that pain when you locked in and all alone / Your only friend is time, for you he won’t stop goin’ / Everyday I wake up, promise myself to go harder.”
Sheff closes out the project with a strong selection of features. Fellow Brooklyn drill pioneer Sleepy Hallow brings the heat on “Yes Freestyle,” a collab track they dropped shortly after Sheff’s release earlier this year. YNW Bslime joins him on “No Games,” where the two rappers set their focus right and realize they have too much to lose: “Talk to God, stay on your grind, wait til your time come,” raps BSlime. Sheff taps fellow Winners Circle rapper Fresh G for a verse on “Hunnit Pack,” where the duo trade flexes and assert their status as their city’s finest. The project comes to a close with “Never Again,” ft. Lil Tecca, a previously released sexy drill anthem, and “On Go” ft. Polo G, an assertive end to the versatile project.
Proud of Myself is the long-awaited follow-up to 2022’s From The Can. The road to the project began earlier this year with Sheff’s triumphant homecoming single “Everything Lit“. He quickly regained his stride with his recent On The Radar Freestyle and collab with Sleepy Hallow on “Yes Freestyle”. With the explosion in popularity of Brooklyn drill over the past few years, Proud of Myself is a testament to Sheff’s influence on the New York drill genre and all its offshoots. Following the project’s release, Sheff G and Sleepy Hallow will be hosting Winners Fest on Friday, 11/29 – a one-night festival celebrating the evolution of New York rap that will feature performances from Cash Cobain, Chow Lee, 41, wolfacejoeyy, and more. A pioneer of the burrough’s drill movement, Sheff G first began making music while he was still in high school. He quickly garnered buzz with his debut track “4 Them Racks”, a release that led to his 2017 breakout moment with explosive underground hit “No Suburban”. A strong run of releases followed, including his critically-acclaimed debut album One and Only, as he ascended through the genre’s ranks, collaborating with fellow rap mainstays A Boogie Wit da Hoodie (“Run It Up”), King Von (“PICASSO”), Eli Fross (“ISO”), Polo G (“On Go”), and Fivio Foreign(“Waiting”), racking up millions of streams and video views, including 6 RIAA-certified Gold Records and a Platinum Record, in the process.
Now at just 26 years old, Sheff G is already paying the way forward for the next generation of artists alongside longtime friend and collaborator Sleepy Hallow, with whom he co-founded independent label Winners Circle Entertainment. A community-oriented artist to the core, Sheff G is also dialed-in with his non-profit organization Love On Life Foundation, which he founded while still behind bars to address mental health and income disparities in his community. “Now we can sign other artists and give people opportunities to feed their families also,” he explains.
With Proud of Myself out now. Sheff G is making up for lost time and ready to show the world what he’s capable of. Stay tuned for much more from the Brooklyn drill pioneer soon.
