MIAMI, FL (September 14, 2023) – Multi-platinum singer, songwriter, actress, and activist, Becky G, pens an ode to her late grandfather with the release of her newest single, “QUERIDO ABUELO” via Kemosabe Records/Sony Music Latin/RCA Records Tugging at the heartstrings of listeners, Becky expresses her profound gratitude for the wisdom, love, and support she received from her grandfather, while continuing to honor her heritage. The track premieres a few days after Becky announced the official release date for her upcoming album, “ESQUINAS,” scheduled for September 28, the day before her late grandfather’s birthday. Pre-order the album HERE. “QUERIDO ABUELO” is now available on all digital streaming platforms.
Composed by Becky G, Edgar Barrera, Juan Pablo Zazueta Acosta and Jesús Omar Tarazon Medina, and produced by Edgar Barrera, the track gives fans a vivid picture of her upbringing, as she reflects on one of her favorite pastimes – visiting her grandparent’s ranch in Mexico. The lyrics feature a nostalgic Becky pouring her heart out while describing the infinite support she received from her now guardian angel to chase her dreams, no matter what. The ballad’s guitar strumming and Becky’s standout voice transmit her raw emotion, longing to embrace her grandfather one last time and reconnect with the younger version of herself that slept on the floor of her grandparent’s home and felt like a “millionaire.”
This single release is accompanied by an emotionally-charged music video, scoring the global superstar her first co-director credit. The visualizer intertwines a montage of homemade videos from Becky’s childhood with footage from present day, where she presents the track to her maternal grandparents for the first time. Throughout the video, flashes of Becky singing “Cruz del Olvido” by the late King of Ranchera music, Vicente Fernandez, to her late grandfather on his birthday.
“QUERIDO ABUELO” arrives as the Mexican-American recording artist’s third studio album “ESQUINAS” is on the horizon. Building off her last album, ESQUEMAS, the album will showcase the star unapologetically embracing her identity as a 200 percenter – 100 percent Mexican and 100 percent American. The single arrives as Becky kicks off her first-ever headlining tour, “Mi Casa, Tu Casa” tour in Boston, MA. The 16-city trek will make stops in cities, like Atlanta, Boston, New York and Miami before closing out in Los Angeles, California on October 15.
