SZA’s return to the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart for the 12th non-consecutive week with SOS Deluxe: LANA coincided with the #1 box office debut of One Of Them Days, her first feature film co-starring Keke Palmer. According to Billboard, “SOS has the most weeks atop the chart for an R&B/hip-hop album by a woman, or an R&B album by a woman, since Whitney Houston’s self-titled set tallied 14 weeks at No. 1 in 1986.” SOS (original + deluxe) has accumulated over 20 billion overall streams (audio + video), been inside the Top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart for a total of 74 weeks and on the chart for over 2 years since its release on December 9, 2022. SOS has been a chart powerhouse, with five of its songs hitting the top 10 on the Hot 100, including “Kill Bill” claiming the #1 position and “Snooze” staying on the chart for the entirety of 2023. Recent RIAA certifications for SOS includes: 6x Platinum – SOS (album); 8x Platinum – “Kill Bill,” “Snooze;” 4x Platinum – “I Hate You;” 3x Platinum – “Nobody Gets Me,” “Shirt,” 2x Platinum – “Blind,” “Low,” “Saturn,” and more.
SOS Deluxe: LANA has received glowing reviews since its December 20, 2024 release. Rolling Stone proclaimed “Lana proves that SZA really has no competition at all,” while Elle summarized “[t]he primary strength of SZA’s artistry lies in brutally honest songwriting that exposes even the thoughts deemed too embarrassing and big to say aloud. But she’s brave enough to do it anyway. Those gritty and gossamer details fueled her anxiety-driven lyricism that made CTRL and SOS critically-acclaimed behemoths, swiftly transforming SZA into a superstar.”
2025 already has the makings of another successful year for SZA. She won her fifth Grammy Award – Best R&B Song for “Saturn” on February 2nd. Her recent feature film debut in the acclaimed buddy comedy “One of Them Days” alongside Keke Palmer adds to her accomplishments. With this film, SZA joins the ranks of artists like Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, Harry Styles, Eminem and Prince, who have achieved a #1 album and #1 film in the same year. The Issa Rae-produced film remains a hit, with a 95% “certified fresh” critics’ score and a “verified hot” audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Following tonight’s Super Bowl LIX Apple Music Halftime performance with Kendrick Lamar, the pair will embark on the “Grand National Tour,” starting April 19th in Minneapolis.
