(New York, NY – August 23, 2024) – Today, rising singer, songwriter, and rapper Jourden shares her debut EP, Straight, No Chase out now via RCA Records – click HERE to listen. The 7-track EP includes the previously released and indelible “Flow” along with recent single, “Tryin’ To Play Me.”
Straight No Chase explores Jourden’s growing mastery of her flow and style. The EP acts as an impressive nod to the ’90s, with lyrical flow and production that fuses classic hip-hop, neo-soul, and alt-R&B. Throughout the project listeners audibly witness an artist with reverence for the journeyman that inspired and laid the groundwork for the meld that is her sound, lyricism, and plurality. Said reverence directed her naturally, to collaborate with the architects of such, working with producers: Cardo (Kendrick Lamar, Baby Keem) on “Minerals,” Latrell James (Lil Dicky, J.I.D.) on “D-Boy feat. Foggieraw & DaVionne” and even DJ Khalil (Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Nipsey Hussle) on “Picture Perfect.”
On the release of Straight, No Chase Jourden states, “Straight, No Chase is about jumping right into the thick of things. This EP cuts through the fluff—no chasers, no sweeteners. I wanted to give it to you straight. I created this project during a time of major change in my life, when raw truths hit me hard and challenged the comfortability I used to cling to. ‘Straight, No Chase’ is my way of celebrating honesty while being true to self, unfiltered. I’m thankful for how I’ve turned my struggles into something powerful and proud of how my personal truth comes through in this work.”

About Jourden:
Jourden, singer, songwriter, rapper, and music producer, born and raised in Fort Greene, Brooklyn. At the age of seven, Jourden began to explore her musical curiosities. With a family piano inside of her home, she gravitated to it, listening to songs on her iPod and then learning to play them by ear. Lyrically, she began expressing her sense of duty to activism and social justice with the spoken word. This artistic prowess organically evolved to include singing and rapping. At the age of 15 during her sophomore year of high school, Jourden was able to firmly establish herself as a creative force as a singer, rapper, and producer. With lyrics like – “As time develops — I hope to be more of a leader than a tweeter. Hope you remember my actions more than my clever lines,” her song “Tides” won the 2016 Grammy U Song of the Year Award, which explores the emotional complexities of her journey as teen learning to define her identity and coming of age. She later graduated with a degree in performing arts from Loyola University New Orleans.
Jourden’s style of music is a brilliant fusion of neo soul, trap, classic hip hop, alternative and Caribbean beats influenced by her West Indian heritage – her mother is of Bajan descent and her father is of Trinidadian descent. As an artist, she is inspired by Erykah Badu, LaurynHill, Notorious B.I.G, Outkast, and A Tribe called Quest. She is motivated to make music for the voiceless, the silenced, the overlooked, and the unheard. She hopes that through her music to bring love, a critical perspective and invites listeners on her ongoing expedition of self-discovery, especially to those within her community. All of this is embodied in her personal and professional mantra, “Stay different.”
