About Jazmine Sullivan:
Jazmine Sullivan released her debut album Fearless in 2008, a number one album on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart that garnered seven Grammy Awards nominations including Best R&B Album and Best New Artist. From her first single “Need U Bad,” Jazmine Sullivan demonstrated an innate ability to write songs that perfectly capture the stories of so many women, especially Black women. Sullivan possesses a lyrical vulnerability that makes you think she has been reading your journal. This talent led her to cultivate a substantial secondary discography as a songwriter and featured vocalist as well.
Following a string of nominations over the years for Love Me Back (2010) and Reality Show (2012), in 2022 she took home her first Grammy for Best R&B Album for Heaux Tales – the critically lauded project that has allowed us to share in her journey to self-love, removing herself from the shadows of past fears and insecurities. The project’s RIAA-certified Platinum single, “Pick Up Your Feelings,” also won a Grammy for Best R&B Song. Earlier this year, Jazmine won three 2022 NAACP Image Awards – Outstanding Female Artist, Outstanding Album (Heaux Tales) and Outstanding Soul/R&B Song (“Pick Up Your Feelings”), plus a 2022 BET Award for Best Female R&B Artist. Last year, Sullivan collected a BET Award for Album of the Year, plus two Soul Train Music Awards for Best Album/Mixtape and Best R&B/Soul Female Artist. After the year-long impact of Heaux Tales, Sullivan released Heaux Tales, Mo’ Tales: The Deluxe on February of 2022, which contained four new tracks and five new tales, including one from “Insecure” actress, writer, producer Issa Rae. The collective success and impact of the project awarded her with a spot on the 2022 TIME100 list, an annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world recognizing the impact, innovation, and achievement of the world’s most influential individuals. Her original song “Stand Up” from MGM’s Orion Pictures’ film Till, followed her recent collaboration with Adam Blackstone on “‘Round Midnight” first recorded and made popular in 1943 by jazz pianist Thelonious Monk.
